Bored of your usual gyms and fitness classes? If you’re looking for a totally wacky way to shake up your exercise routine, you’ll love the revolutionary bungee dance workout, offered at A Step to Gold International Ballroom, a 5000 sq. ft. ballroom dance and fitness studio located at Pleasant Valley Promenade Shopping Center in Raleigh, NC above Bed Bath & Beyond.
Bungee Swing is exactly like how it sounds – you’ll be hooked up to a bungee cord from a harness suspended from the ceiling. Your bungee lets you do things a person with average fitness is not be able to do – floor dives, one-handed push-ups and gliding around the room almost weightlessly.
The first thing you need to do before starting the class is to secure your bungee cords. You’ll need to don the thick neoprene pants before putting on your bungee cord – these will prevent any chafing, and for you to keep from slipping and sliding. Two straps will be hooked onto your upper thighs, while a large one will be secured around your hips.
Don’t worry that you have nothing to support you from the front. Do not panic! Before you know it you will be getting down to jumping into push ups. And don’t be afraid of hurting your joints! You will quickly learn that there is nothing to fear, as your reliable bungee will let you land and lift you up safely. You will feel like a kid again!
The highlight is soaring through the air with your bungee a la Spider-Man. The sheer adrenaline rush from this is worth the sweat, every ache, and initial confusion.
During your session, you will learn different bits of a routine, before going through the whole shebang at the end. Once you master the routine you will feel a sense of accomplishment. Aching arms, legs, and especially your core the next day will prove how hard you have worked. We’d highly recommend giving this a try as it’s a completely alternative workout and it blitzes a ton of calories. Plus, let’s face it: gliding through the air on a bungee is a heck of a lot more fun than lifting weights or pounding the treadmill at the gym.
